SFA RANKED ATOP INITIAL WAC RESUME SEEDING RANKING

Stephen F. Austin ranked first in the debut of the WAC Resume Seeding system. The Lumberjacks are one of the six teams with a positive ranking with 1.42 points followed by Grand Canyon (0.38), UT Arlington (0.34), Utah Tech (0.27), Tarleton (0.16) and UTRGV (0.13).

GCU TOPS KANSAS CITY 61-50

GCU outscores Kansas City 36-20 in the second half and improved to 6-1 with a 5-1 home record. The third-ranked defense in the country lived up to its billing in the second half, forcing 16 turnovers and holding Kansas City to 20 points. Tiarra Brown had a career-best six steals to compliment her 12 points and five rebounds. Aaliyah Collins led the Lopes with 17 points and tallied four assists and four steals. Laila McLeod recorded a season-best 13 points with two 3-pointers in 20 minutes of play.

UTAH TECH ON TWO-GAME WINNING STREAK

Utah Tech beat Texas A&M Commerce 82-62 and remain undefeated at home with a 4-0 record, 5-2 overall. Utah Tech had four Trailblazers in double figures and were led by Macie Warren’s 18 points. Warren also pulled down eight rebounds for UT.  Maggie McCord and Breaunna Gillen each recorded 17 points and McCord recorded her second double-double of the season with a game high of 13 rebounds. Utah Tech ended the game shooting 42.2 percent from the field, 43.3 percent from the three and 88.2 percent from the free throw line. UT totaled 50 rebounds, 13 assists, six steals and 20 turnovers.

UTA IMPROVED TO 5-4 AFTER THREE STRAIGHT WINS

UT Arlington jumps five spots in the WAC standings after victories over North Texas (76-58), Houston (67-64) and Lamar (60-56). Kayla White and Starr Jacobs combined for 36 points to lead UTA past North Texas snapping a four-game losing streak. Shyia Smith secured her first double-double in the Lady Mavs victory over Houston with 13 points, 12 rebounds and a pair of assists on 5-of-10 shooting. Starr Jacobs led UTA with a game-high 22 points along with eight rebounds, three steals and two assists in UTA’s win over Lamar. Taleyah Jones, who came off the bench and logged 25 minutes, added a season-best 11 points and three rebounds.

THERE'S NO PLAE LIKE HOME

There are six WAC teams that are unbeaten at home beginning with Utah Tech at 4-0. Tarleton, Abilene Christian and UT Arlington all sitting at 3-0 at home followed by UTRGV and NM State at 2-0.   

THE WAC IN THE NATIONAL STAT RANKINGS

In the latest NCAA DI national statistics rankings that were released on Dec. 5, Grand Canyon ranked second nationally in steals per game with 17.1 and fourth per game in turnovers forced per game. Sam Houston is currently ranked fourth in offensive rebounds per game at 18.5 with Souther Utah being ranked 43rd at 15.0. Souther Utah is ranked fourth in total rebounds per game with 47.50 followed by Sam Houston coming in at the 20th spot at 45.00. California Baptist is ranked 13th in three-point field goal attempts with 235 and UTRGV is ranked 21st in the same category.
