Ticketsmarter WAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced
DENVER – Stephen F. Austin's Jeremiah Curry and Asani Hylton have been named Western Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for Jan. 26 through 30.
Curry, a senior from Jacksonville, Ark., picked up a top-eight finish at the Texas Tech Open and Multis, Saturday. He finished seventh in the 200-meter run with a time of 21.20 seconds. His time puts him at the top of the WAC and 41st in the NCAA performance lists according to TFRRS.
Hylton, a senior from Westmoreland, Jamaica, finished second while breaking the school record in the Heptathlon with a score of 5,791 points at the Texas Tech Open and Multis, Saturday. His performance puts him first in this season's WAC performance list and fifth in the NCAA according to TFRRS. He marked 2.12m (6' 11.5") in the high jump leg that puts him second in the WAC and 39th in the NCAA performance list.
Other track nominees: Abilene Christian's Levi Chambers finished first in the 5000 meters with a time of 14:43.29 that puts him first in the WAC performance list at the Pittsburgh State Invitational, Saturday … Chicago State's Jonnathan Fernandez finished first in the 5000 meters (14:58.87) and 3000 meters (8:51.82) at the Aurora Grand Prix, Saturday … Grand Canyon's Landon Rast finished 11th in the mile run with a time of 4:09.54 that puts him first in the WAC performance list at the New Mexico Team Open, Saturday … Lamar's George Wheeler won the 3000 meters with a time of 8:05.84 that puts him first in the WAC performance list at the Houston G5 & Super 22 Invitational, Friday … Tarleton's Sullivan Sanders finished 20th in the 60m hurdles (8.20) at the at the Texas Tech Open and Multis … UT Rio Grande Valley's Miguel Escamilla took third in the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.58 at the Houston G5 & Super 22 Invitational.
