TicketSmarter WAC Men’s Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week Announced
DENVER – UNLV's George Ratiu and Wyoming's Juan Gonzalez has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week for Jan. 26 through 30.
Ratiu, a sophomore from Cluj-Napoca, Romania, collected two individual and contributed to four relay wins on the Rebel's double dual win over Wyoming and Hawaii, Friday through Saturday. Individually, he won the 100 freestyle (44.63) and 100 butterfly (48.95). In the relays, he swam the butterfly legs of the 200 (1:28.97) and 400 (3:17.75) medley relays then leading off both the 200 (1:20.80) and 400 (2:58.51) freestyle relays.
Gonzalez, a sophomore from Medellin, Colombia, got runner-up finshes in both diving events at the Cowboys' double dual against UNLV and Hawaii, Friday through Saturday. He scored a WAC top-10 performance of the season in the 1-meter (293.75) then scored a top-five performance in the 3-meter with an NCAA Zone Qualifying score of 336.15.
Other swimmer nominee: California Baptist's Robert Moseley won the 200 individual medley (1:57.78) in the Lancers' fall top UC San Diego, Saturday … Seattle U's Will Corona contributed wins in the 200 freestyle (1:40.94) and 100 backstroke (51.37) to the Redhawks' win over Whitworth, Friday … Wyoming's Thomas Diaz won the 200 individual medley (1:54.22) and finished third in the 400 individual medley (4:07.10) at the Cowboys' double dual meet against UNLV and Hawaii.
Other diver nominees: California Baptist's Jacob Penman won the 1-meter (263.35) and 3-meter (307.85) against UC San Diego … UNLV's Dima Tereshchenko finished fourth in the 1-meter (272.30) and 3-meter (317.40) in the Rebels' double dual meet against Wyoming and Hawaii.
