TicketSmarter WAC Women's Tennis Athletes of the Week Announced
DENVER – A pair of victories against Alcorn State over the weekend helped propel Lamar to a sweep of the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference women’s tennis Athlete of the Week honors. Elena Tairyan has been recognized as the Player of the Week. She teamed up with Noelia Lorca as the duo claimed doubles Team of the Week accolades.
During her two singles matches against the Braves, she posted a pair of straight set wins. While playing at the No. 2 position in each contest, Tairyan started her day with a 7-6 (2), 6-2 victory over Andrea Quiroz. Just hours later, the junior won the first set 6-0 before her opponent retired early in the second set with Tairyan leading in the frame.
The tandem of Lorca and Tairyan cruised to victory in their doubles matches. At the No. 1 slot, they won their morning contest 6-4 against Kimberly Kaome and Mikaela Konstantinov then notched a 6-1 victory against Quiroz and Tangia Riley-Codring.
As a team, Lamar only dropped one point over the course of the two matches.
