TicketSmarter WAC Women’s Tennis Athletes of the Week Announced
DENVER – For the second time in the young season, Tarleton swept the TicketSmarter Women’s Athletes of the Week awards. Deniza Marcinkevica earned singles Player of the Week and teamed up with Jemi Aguilar as they claimed the doubles Team of the Week honors.
Marcinkevica claimed her second and third singles wins this season as the Texans beat Lipscomb and Belmont in matches held in Nashville. She started the weekend stretch with a 7-5, 6-1 victory against Kate Popova from Lipscomb then knocked off Gina Feistel 7-6, 4-6, 6-2. Both wins came at the No. 1 position.
The tandem of Aguilar and Marcinkevica contributed a pair of victories at the top doubles slot during Tarleton’s undefeated weekend. They began with a convincing 6-2 victory against Lipscomb’s Kate Popova and Maddox Bandy on Friday. Twenty-four hours later they registered a 6-3 win against the Bruins tandem of Anastasiya Zholdakova and Viktoria Kliimand.
