TicketSmarter WAC Women's Basketball Players of the Week Announced

DENVER – Stephen F. Austin’s Aiyana Johnson has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week with Lamar’s Akasha Davis earning TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week honors.

Johnson posted a pair of double-doubles in the Ladyjacks three road games in claiming her first Player of the Week honors from the WAC. In helping the league’s first-place team to a 3-0 week, the forward averaged 16.7 points, 9.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists. She started her week with an 11-point, 11-rebound game at Grand Canyon. She followed that by scoring 14 points while registering five rebounds and five assists at Utah Valley. Johnson closed the week by notching a 25-point, 13-rebound performance against Dixie State.

Davis garnered Freshman of the Week accolades for the fifth time this season. In Lamar’s only game last week, she nailed 10 of her 13 field goal attempts en route to a 23-point performance. She also grabbed seven rebounds during the 53-39 win over UT Rio Grande Valley.

Other nominees included: Faith Cook scored 40 total points as Sam Houston knocked off Dixie State and Utah Valley on the road to up their winning streak to five straight … Josie Williams put up a pair of great stat lines for Utah Valley as she averaged 17 points and 15 points in two games … Amara Graham scored in double figures in all three of Grand Canyon’s games (13.3 ppg) as the Lopes posted two wins … Bree Calhoun came off the bench in Seattle U’s two contests to tally 21 points per game … Caitlyn Harper scored 18 and 20 points respectively in California Baptist’s games against New Mexico State and Grand Canyon … UT Rio Grande Valley’s Taylor Muff highlighted her three-game week with her third 20-plus point game of the season in the Vaquores win against Abilene Christian … Emily Isaacson recorded 16.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game as Dixie State hosted Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin … Tayelin Grays of New Mexico State posted an 18-point, 12-rebound game against UT Rio Grande Valley to highlight her three-game week … Tyler Jackson netted 12 points with four assists, four rebounds and a pair of steals in Tarleton’s road contest at Chicago State … Lamar’s Sabria Dean nearly recorded a double-double with a 16-point, eight-rebound game, with four steals, against UT Rio Grande Valley … Davis was also considered for the award.

Other freshman nominees included: Kacee Kyle averaged nine points, 6.3 assists for UT Rio Grande Valley; highlighted by a 13-point, 15-assist effort against Abilene Christian … Trinity San Antonio recorded her second career 20-plus point game by recording 20 points to highlight her two-game week for California Baptist … Aaliyah Collins had a 14-point performance with three rebounds as Chicago State knocked off Tarleton in their only game last week … Averi Papa averaged six points and five rebounds in Dixie State’s two games against Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin … Ja’Mya Powell-Smith earned the starting nod in Grand Canyon’s three games as she posted 3.3 points per game … Mason Jones came off the bench for Tarleton in their game at Chicago State
