TicketSmarter WAC Women’s Tennis Athletes of the Week Announced
DENVER – After an undefeated week in southern California, Grand Canyon’s Fabienne Schmidt has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference women’s tennis singles Player of the Week. The Stephen F. Austin duo of Ai Noa Fabre and Zala Ule earned doubles Team of the Week after posting a pair of road wins.
Schmidt posted two wins while playing at the No. 2 position for the Lopes, while helping Grand Canyon to a pair of victories during their road trip. She started the weekend with a hard fought 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win against UC Irvine’s Jessica Tsukiji. The triumph proved critical as the Lopes posted a 4-3 team win. The next day, Schmidt made quick work of UC Riverside’s Natalie Shamma with a 6-3, 6-2 win as Grand Canyon nabbed a shutout (5-0) win.
Noa Fabre and Ule claimed victory in their two matches at the No. 1 slot in Louisiana. The duo begin their two-day stretch with a 7-5 win against the Alcorn State tandem of Mikae Konstantinova and Kimberly Kaome as the Ladyjacks grabbed a 4-0 team win. The next day, the Stephen F. Austin teammates pulled out a 7-6 (4) win as they Ladyjacks won the doubles point en route to a 4-3 team victory.
