TicketSmarter WAC Men’s Tennis Athletes of the Week Announced
DENVER – After posting a convincing team win against Oral Roberts, Lamar swept the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference men’s tennis Athlete of the Week awards. Juan Jose Rodriguez earned singles Players of the Week honors then teamed with Daniel Sancho Arbizu to claim doubles Team of the Week accolades.
Rodriguez posted a hard-fought straight sets win in the No. 2 singles match on Sunday. The freshman battled to a 7-5 first set win against Ezequiel Monferrer then completed his two-set win with an 8-6 victory in a tiebreaker. The win lifted Rodriguez to 3-2 on the season and 2-0 in matches played at the second singles position.
The Cardinal tandem helped get their squad off on the right foot with a 6-3 win against Ignacio Vinas and Monferrer at the top double position. It was their first match together at the No. 1 slot. They are 4-0 this season when teaming up.
