NM State Headed To Buffalo To Face UConn

INDIANAPOLIS - After winning their eighth WAC tournament title in the last 10 years, the NM State are heading east to open their 2022 NCAA Tournament run as the Aggies will take on UConn in the first round on Thursday in Buffalo, N.Y.

The 12th-seeded Aggies (26-6) fought past Grand Canyon and Abilene Christian en route to securing the WAC's automatic bid to March Madness. NMSU will be led by WAC Player of the Year and WAC Tournament MVP Teddy Allen, who is averaging 19.3 points per game on .443 shooting. Sir'Jabari Rice, who also earned WAC All-Tournament honors, is averaging 12.2 points per game while Johnny McCants leads the Aggies in the paint with 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game.

The fifth-seeded Huskies of UConn enter the torunament with a record of 23-9, having fallen to Villanova in the semifinal of the Big East Tournament on Friday. Connecticut is led by 15.7 points per game from R.J. Cole and 14.9 points per game from Adama Sanogo.

The winner of the matchup between the Aggies and Huskies will take on the winner of Vermont and Arkansas. More information, including tip time and broadcast information, will be released by the NCAA later Sunday.
