TicketSmarter Men's Tennis Athletes of the Week Announced
DENVER – With a pair of weekend team wins to their credit, Chicago State swept the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference men’s tennis Athlete of the Week awards. Pedro Alvarez was named the singles Player of the Week then teamed with Javier Sanchez Pradillo to claim doubles Team of the Week.
The Cougars started the weekend with a 4-0 win against Lindenwood then followed that victory with a 4-1 triumph against St. Louis.
Alvarez was well on his way to a Saturday victory against Juan Herrera. He was leading 6-1, 5-2 at the top singles position, before the match was halted when Chicago State clinched the fourth team point. The freshman did get his weekend win the next day when he registered a 7-6, 6-2 victory against Ryota Fukushima of St. Louis at the No. 2 spot.
The duo of Alvarez and Sanchez Pradillo came together to win both their matches at the No. 1 slot. They started their stretch with a 6-4 victory against the Lindenwood tandem of Herrera and Francisco on Saturday. The next morning, they recorded a 6-3 victory against the St. Louis duo of Jonthan Sadowski and Eliott Ekindi. With those two wins, the Cougars duo is now 5-1 when playing at the No. 1 position this season.
