WAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
 
MEN
Abilene Christian's Jamal January and Stephen F. Austin's Cord Neal has been named TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 16 through 20.
 
January, a senior from Austin, Texas, competed on two track events at the Wes Kittley Inivational and Multi, Thursday through Saturday. He won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.80 seconds, putting him first in the WAC, fourth in the west region and seventh in the NCAA performance lists according to TFRRS. He placed 11th in the 400-meter hurdles (55.71).
 
Neal, a senior from Chester, Texas, won the javelin throw at the Ice Breaker Classic, Friday. He placed first with a mark of 69.31m (227' 5") that puts him first in the WAC, second in the west region and seventh in NCAA performance lists according to TFRRS.
 
Other track nominees: Grand Canyon's Landon Rast placed fifth in the 800 meters (1:53.72) and fourth in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:49.72, fastest in the WAC this season, at the Willie Willams Classic, Friday … Lamar's Jaylon Roberts placed third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.73, fastest in the WAC performance list, at the Louisiana Classic, Friday … Seattle U's Isaiah Payne finished first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.65, good for seventh in the WAC performance list, at the OSU PNW Invite, Saturday … Tarleton's Justin Raines placed fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.33 seconds, second in the WAC performance list, at the Wes Kittley Invitational and Mutli, Thursday … UT Rio Grande Valley's Yashawn Hamilton placed first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.58 seconds that puts him sixth in the WAC performance list at the South Texas Showdown, Friday.
 
Other field nominees: Abilene Christian's Jamal January won the long jump with a 7.59m (24' 11") mark that puts him first in the WAC, second in the west region and seventh in the NCAA performance lists at the Wes Kittley Invitational and Multi, Thursday ... Grand Canyon Jorden Okyere placed first in hammer throw with a mark of 56.39m (191' 7"), topping the WAC performance list, at the Willie Williams Classic … Lamar's Kenson Tate placed first in long jump with a mark of 7.26m (23' 10"), third in the WAC performance list, at the Louisiana Classic … Tarleton's Jamariyan Howlett placed fourth in high jump with a mark of 2.02m (6' 7.5"), second in the WAC performance list, at the Wes Kittley Invitational and Multi … UT Rio Grande Valley's Michael Campbell placed first in shot put with a mark of 15.57m (51' 1") at the South Texas Showdown, Friday.
 
WOMEN
Grand Canyon's Kelly Moodry and Abilene Christian's Annina Brandenburg has been named TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 16 through 20.
 
Moodry, a junior from Gillette, Wyo., won the 800-meter run at the Willie Williams Classic, Friday. She finished first with a time of 2:05.67, fastest in the WAC and third in the NCAA performance lists according to TFRRS. Moodry placed 12th in the 200-meter dash with a WAC top-10 time at the same meet.
 
Brandenburg, a graduate student from Dusseldorf, Germany, took the runner-up spot in both the shot put and discus at the Wes Kittley Invitational and Multi, Thursday through Saturday. She placed second in discus just behind this season's top-performer, Texas Tech's Seasons Usual (58.50m/191' 11"), with a mark of 55.18m (181' 0") putting her first in the WAC and seventh in the NCAA performance lists according to TFRRS. Brandenburg's second runner-up finish came in shot put where she marked 15.96m (52' 4.5") topping the WAC and placing 13th in the NCAA performance lists.

Austin's Mathilde Coquillaud-Salomon placed third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.75), fastest in the WAC and 29th in the NCAA performance lists, at the UTSA Invitational, Friday … Tarleton's Nyla Barlow finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with the fastest time in the WAC performance list (24.08) at the Wes Kittley Invitational and Multi … UT Rio Grande Valley's Estrella Medellin finished runner-up in the 800-meter run with a time of two minutes 22.83 seconds at the South Texas Showdown, Friday.
 
Other field nominees: Grand Canyon's Jazmine Scott placed second in triple jump with a mark of 12.22m (40' 1.25"), best in the WAC performance list, at the Willie Williams Classic … NM State's Phetisang Makhethe won the hammer throw with a mark of 61.72m (202' 6") that topped the WAC performance list at the Willie Williams Classic … Seattle U's Nicole Whittern placed third in javelin with a mark of 43.62m (143' 1") good for third in the WAC performance list at the OSU PNW Invite … Stephen F. Austin Seri Geisler won the javelin with a mark of 51.33m (168' 5"), best in WAC and ninth in NCAA performance lists, at the Ice Breaker Classic … Tarleton's Rylee Hennig won the high jump with a mark of 1.67m (5' 57"), good for second in the WAC performance list, at the Wes Kittley Invitational and Multi.
 
UP NEXT
WAC teams will be travelling to different meets this weekend where some will get the chance to see each other.
 
The outdoor track and field weekend starts when Abilene Christian, Lamar, Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin, Tarleton and Grand Canyon will see each other in the Texas Relays at Austin, Wednesday through Saturday.
 
On Thursday, NM State will compete at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego. 
 
A group of the ACU Wildcats will take part in the Texas State Invitational at San Marcos, Texas, Friday. While the Lopes will be at the ASU Invitational at Tempe, Ariz., UT Rio Grande Valley will be competing at the Prairie View Relays. At the same time, Lamar, Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin will be seeing each other again at the Victor Lopoez Classic in Houston, Texas
