WAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
 
MEN
Sam Houston's Daviciea McCartney and Stephen F. Austin's Asani Hylton has been named TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 23 through 27.
 
McCartney, a sophomore from Fort Worth, Texas, dominated the hurdles events at the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, Thursday through Saturday. He won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.55 seconds that puts him first in the WAC and 20th in the NCAA performance lists. He then came back on the last day of the meet to win the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.07 seconds that placed him second in the WAC and 35th in the NCAA performance lists according to TFRRS.
 
Hylton, a senior from Westmoreland, Jamaica, placed fourth in the decathlon at the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. He competed against the top of the nation scoring 7671 points that placed him fourth in the NCAA performance list according to TFRRS. He marked 2.05m (6' 8.75") on the high jump leg, good for second in the WAC and 57th in the NCAA performance lists.
 
Other track nominees: Abilene Christian's Jamal January placed seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (53.49) and 22nd in the 110-meter hurdles (14.26) at the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays ... Grand Canyon's Jacob Lewis placed third in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:44.71, first in the WAC and 30th in the NCAA performance lists at the ASU Invitational, Friday through Saturday … Lamar's Declan Neary placed fifth in the 3,000 meters with at time of 9:01.77, first in the WAC and 30th in the NCAA performance lists, at the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays … Tarleton's Justin Raines placed 40th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.57 seconds at the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
 
Other field nominees: Grand Canyon's Gabriel Binion won the long jump with a mark of 7.41m (24' 3.75") the placed him second in the WAC and 41st in the NCAA performance lists at the Texas State Bobcat Invitational, Thursday through Saturday ... Lamar's Kenson Tate placed second in long jump with a mark of 7.37m (24' 2.25") at the Victor Lopez Classic, Friday and Saturday  … Sam Houston's Daveon Thomas won the discus throw with a mark of 57.10m (187' 4"), first in the WAC and 19th in the NCAA performance lists, at the Victor Lopez Classic.
 
WOMEN
Grand Canyon's Kelly Moodry and Abilene Christian's Annina Brandenburg has been named TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for March 23 through 27.
 
Moodry, a junior from Gillette, Wyo., placed third in the 800-meter run in the first day of the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, Thursday through Saturday. She won the event with a time of 2:05.64, retaining her top spot in the WAC and putting her sixth in the NCAA performance lists according to TFRRS.
 
Brandenburg, a graduate student from Dusseldorf, Germany, competed on three field events at the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. She placed second in the discus throw with a mark of 57.29m (187' 11"), top mark in the WAC and fourth in the NCAA performance lists according to TFRRS. She placed fifth in the javelin (46.19m/151' 6") and eighth in shot put (16.15m/53' 0"), third and second in the WAC performance list, respectively.
 
Other track nominees: Abilene Christian's Irene Rono won the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:13.88, top time at the WAC and 18th in the NCAA performance lists, at the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays … Lamar's Yasmin Austridge won the 1,500 meter run (4:26.09) and placed sixth in the 3,000 steeplechase (10:35.12) at the Victor Lopez Classic, Friday through Saturday … NM State's Jhana Downie placed third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54,77 seconds at the Aztec Invitational, Thursday through Saturday … Tarleton's Hanna Dudley played a role in the Texans 4x100-meter (47.50) and 4x400-meter relays (3:42.27) that placed seventh and fourth, respectively, at the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
 
Other field nominees: Grand Canyon's Nebtom N'Da placed second in long jump with a mark of 6.02m (19' 9"), first in the WAC performance list, at the Texas State Bobcat Invitational, Thursday through Saturday … Lamar's Arajanee Jackson placed second in triple jump with a mark of 12.06m (39' 7") at the Victor Lopez Classic … NM State's Phetisang Makhethe won the hammer throw with a mark of 60.22m (197" 7") just under her season best of 61.72m (202' 6") at the Aztec Invitational … Sam Houston's KeAyla Dove placed fifth in the shot put with a mark of 16.93m (55' 6.5"), first in the WAC and eighth in the NCAA performance lists, at the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays ... Stephen F. Austin's Seri Geisler placed third in javelin with a mark of 55.28m (181' 4"), first in the WAC and fifth in the NCAA performance lists, at the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
 
UP NEXT
Nine teams will be competing this weekend in what is turning into a busy start of April.
 
The weekend starts early as Tarleton will be on the road at the David Noble Relays and Utah Valley will be hosting the UVU Collegiate Invitational, Thursday.
 
Abilene Christian will compete at the Masked Rider Open, California Baptist at the Sound Running College, Dixie State will be UVU's guests at the UVU Collegiate Invitational, Grand Canyon will be hosting the GCU Invitational and Seattle U and a few of Utah Valley's athletes will see each other at the Hayward Premiere, Friday.
 
To end the week, Sam Houston will be competing at Houston Alumni Invitational, Tarleton will be at the Baylor Invitational, Seattle U distance runners will be racing at the NW Distance Jamboree while  UT Rio Grande Valley will be at the UTSA Invitational, Saturday.
