TicketSmarter WAC Men’s Tennis Athletes of the Week Announced
DENVER – NM State’s Louis Menard has been named the TicketSmarter singles Player of the Week with the Lamar duo of Juan Jose Rodriguez and Daniel Sancho Arbizu claiming the doubles Team of the Week honors.
Menard was stellar at the No. 1 position for the Aggies in their two matches last weekend. He began the stretch with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Chicago State’s Pedro Alvarez as NM State posted a 6-1 team victory over the Cougars. The next day the senior won a 6-1, 6-4 decision against Seattle U’s Julian Worn as the Aggies notched a 5-2 team win. Menard is now 4-0 in WAC matches.
The tandem of Rodriguez and Sancho Arbizu were undefeated in their two matches at the No. 1 position as they helped the Cardinals to a 4-0 start in WAC play. They started with a 7-6 (4) triumph against the UT Rio Grande Valley duo of Misha Kvantaliani and George Hutchings. Two days later they recorded a 6-2 win over Abilene Christian’s Tyler Steward and Daniel Morozov. As a team, Lamar notched wins of 6-1 and 5-2 against UT Rio Grande Valley and Abilene Christian respectively.
Both NM State and Lamar are 4-0 in conference play. They are only undefeated teams in league play.
