TicketSmarter WAC Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week Announced
DENVER – Tarleton’s Georgia Capell has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week with Stephen F. Austin’s Kassidy Wilbur earning TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors.
Capell was an offensive force as the Texans played five non-conference games last week. The senior compiled a .615 batting average while slugging an impressive 1.385 in 13 at-bats. She had at least one hit in each game with three multi-hit games as Tarleton won three total contests against Texas Southern and McNeese State. Of her eight hits, five of them went for extra bases. Capell notched eight RBI and crossed the plate three times.
Wilbur appeared in all three games for the Ladyjacks in their conference opening series at Abilene Christian. She went 2-1 in 14.2 innings pitched with 21 strikeouts. She allowed just two earned runs and nine hits in those appearances. Wilbur also had two complete games in compiling a 0.95 ERA for the weekend. Her best game of the weekend came on Friday evening when she registered 13 strikeouts with four hits and a walk during the 3-0 victory.
Other Hitter of the Week nominees included: Brailey Wasik helped Sam Houston to a WAC weekend sweep of Lamar as she hit three home runs against the Cardinals and drove-in nine runs … Stephanie Reed notched six hits and scored four times with four RBI as Grand Canyon played five games at their own tournament in Phoenix … Maile Olsen had eight hits in 20 at-bats, scored five runs and tallied four RBI as California Baptist had a seven-game week … Kalena Shepherd helped Utah Valley to a 2-2 record against Northern Colorado and Colorado State with a .455 batting average; including two home runs …Hannah Kinkade registered a .667 on-base percentage and scored twice as Lamar traveled to Sam Houston
Other Pitcher of the Week nominees included: Mika Vento won two games for Sam Houston as she worked six total innings in those two appearances with four strikeouts … Alyssa Argomaniz threw 18.1 innings in four appearances for California Baptist where she struck out 13 and posted a 3-1 record … Kennedy Ferguson earned a pair of wins for Tarleton in relief … Jacie Hambrick appeared in three games for Grand Canyon, posted a 2-0 record with nine strikeouts in 11 innings
