TicketSmarter WAC Men's Tennis Athletes of the Week Announced
DENVER – Grand Canyon’s Martim Marujo has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference singles Player of the Week with the Chicago State duo of Jesus Perez Plaza and Jakub Zamorski earning doubles Team of the Week.
In the Lopes only match of the week, Marujo played a critical role in the team’s 4-3 victory at UC Riverside. From his No. 4 singles position, the freshman lost the first set but battled back for a 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 win. His triumph clinched the team match in Grand Canyon’s favor.
The duo of Perez Plaza and Zamorski went undefeated in the Cougars three wins last week. They started the stretch with a 6-1 win at the No. 2 slot against the UIC duo of Ammar Wazir and Kevin Kruzel. They continued their winning ways with a 6-3 victory at Holy Cross then closed out the stretch by coming out on the right side of a 6-2 decision against Purdue Northwest. The tandem from the southside of the Windy City has won four straight together.
