WAC Announces TicketSmarter Women's Tennis Athletes of the Week
With a pair of victories to their credit over the weekend, the Stephen F. Austin women’s tennis team swept the TicketSmarter Athlete of the Week honors. Paula Cerda has been named the singles Player of the Week with the tandem of Zala Ule and Ai Noa Fabre claiming doubles Team of the Week accolades.
Cerda won both of her matches from the third slot. The sophomore started the weekend with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 comeback win against Sam Houston’s Sahithi Vutukuru. The next day she claimed a convincing 6-1, 6-2 decision over Nicholls State’s Sophia Sara Safarova.
The Ladyjacks duo of Ule and Noa Fabre posted a pair of 6-2 wins at the No. 1 position. On Saturday they recorded their victory against the Sam Houston team of Petra Kaszas and Megan Basson then beat the Nicholls State tandem of Laura Lopez and Jessie Mount the next day.
As a team Stephen F. Austin has won three of their last four matches heading into next week’s conference tournament in Beaumont, Texas.
