LOS ANGELES – In their NCAA Division I tournament debut, the Grand Canyon softball team came up against No. 5 UCLA.

The Bruins scored at least three runs in three of the four innings they came to the plate in posting a 12-1 five-inning win.

UCLA starting pitcher Holly Azevedo threw a three-hitter. The Lopes first hit came in the third inning on a Gianna Nicoletti bunt single. In the fifth inning a double to deep leftfield by Stephanie Reed led to an RBI two-out double from Macee Barnes for the Lopes run.

The four-team, double-elimination regional continues for the Lopes tomorrow when they play Ole Miss at 5:30 p.m. (MT) in an elimination game. Earlier in the day Loyola Marymount knocked off the Rebels 4-2.
