WAC Announces Staff Promotions
DENVER – Western Athletic Conference Commissioner Brian Thornton announced a trio of staff promotions on Tuesday. Eric Danner has been elevated to Associate Commissioner, Communications, Ismael Kagone has been promoted to Assistant Director, Sport Administration and Championships and Kendra Sheehan has been promoted to Assistant Director, Digital Communications/Reporter.
Danner joined the WAC staff in 2016 and will add overseeing media relations and marketing in addition to broadcasting for the league. Previously, he served several roles for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and prior to the RMAN, he was Sports Director for KXRM in Colorado Springs, also working at KKTV, KOAA and KGWN.
"Eric is a very progressive thinker what wants to think beyond the status quo," said Thornton. "He has a strong background in digital media which is becoming more and more relevant within our landscape every day. He is the ideal fit to lead our communications department into the future."
Kagone joined the WAC in February of 2021 after completing an internship at the Atlantic-10 Conference. A graduate of University of Richmond, he has overseen several championships at the WAC.
"Championships are often the crowning moment for our student-athletes," added Thornton. "Ismael is a hard-working administrator who has shown a true commitment to creating high-level experiences they will always remember."
Sheehan came to Colorado and the WAC in fall of 2021 after two years as weekend sports anchor from WSIL News 3 in Carterville, Ill. Originally from the Chicago metropolitan area, Sheehan earned her bachelors degree from Florida State in 2018 before earning a masters in broadcast digital journalism from Syracuse University in 2019.
"Kendra has proven to be a major asset to our league," said Thornton. "Her focus on telling the stories of our student-athletes will continue to be a key focus as we continue to enhance our branding efforts."
