DENVER - Today the Western Athletic Conference was informed Lamar University will begin its transition out of the league this fall instead of June 30, 2023.

"Our membership is in a position of strength with a group of committed institutions who believe in our mission and philosophies moving forward with bold and creative initiatives," said WAC Commissioner Brian Thornton. “We are always looking to put our institutions and its student-athletes in positions of success.”

WAC Officials are in the process of working with the membership to adjust fall schedules.

“While the timing of this decision is not ideal as we reformulate fall schedules, we are excited about the quality programs that remain. Our continuing institutions have shown a history and more importantly a desire to compete at a national level,” added Thornton.

The WAC crowns team and individual champions in 20 sports – 10 men’s and 10 women’s. The conference will consist of 13 member institutions in the 2022-23 school year.
