DENVER – The Western Athletic Conference has updated the 2022 football schedule.

Stephen F. Austin will kick off the FCS season on August 27 with a high-profile matchup against Jacksonville State. Fresh off a playoff appearance in 2021, the Lumberjacks enter the season ranked in the top 25. The first WAC conference game of 2022 features Utah members Southern Utah and Utah Tech. Southern Utah opens its WAC era on September 24 against rival Utah Tech. Another key rivalry game takes place on Nov. 5 as Abilene Christian visits Tarleton. The 2022 edition of The Battle of the Piney Woods between Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston at NRG Stadium in Houston will be held on October 1.

As for the non-conference slate, WAC teams will compete against six Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponents as well as two preseason ranked Football Championshiop Subdivision (FCS) opponents. Additionally, capitalizing on its partnership, the WAC and ASUN will feature five contests between conference members.

“I applaud the leadership of our committed institutions for working together to create a schedule that generates competitive matchups throughout the season” said Commissioner Brian Thornton. “Now more than ever, I believe that our league is in a position of strength with the group of institutions that share the ideals of cohesiveness and collegiality while working towards a unified mission.”

All home games will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
