Seven WAC Volleyball Schools Earn USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award
DENVER – Seven Western Athletic Conference (WAC) volleyball programs from the 2021-22 season – Abilene Christian, California Baptist, Grand Canyon, NM State, Stephen F. Austin, Tarleton and UT Rio Grande Valley – earned the United States Marine Corps (USMC)/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
Additionally, Southern Utah, who joined the WAC on July 1, was designated a Team Academic Honor Roll school which is awarded to the top 20% of team GPAs from each division.
A total of 1,214 teams earned the accolade. There were 215 programs from the NCAA Division I level.
