DENVER – Southern Utah's Sammie Sofonia and Seattle U's Kait Raffensperger have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, for the match week ending on Monday, Aug. 22.

Sofonia, a freshman forward, enjoyed a dynamic debut weekend for 3-0 Southern Utah by tallying back-to-back hat tricks in wins over Alcorn State (Aug. 18) and Mississippi Valley State (Aug. 19). Sofonia scored three goals in the Alcorn State victory on five total shots on goal, while all three shot attempts from the Southern Utah striker that found frame in the Mississippi Valley State match found the back of the net.

Raffensperger, a sophomore defender, helped anchor a backline for Seattle U that did not surrender a goal during a 1-0-1 start to the season that included a 2-0 clean sheet victory against Fresno State (Aug. 20). Seattle U not only shut out its first two opponents on the year, the Redhawks also held both Air Force (Aug. 18) and Fresno State to just two shots on goal and 14 total shots combined over 180 minutes.
