DENVER – Grand Canyon's Gianna Gourley and California Baptist’s Noa Schumacher have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, for the match week ending on Monday, Aug. 29.
Gourley, a junior forward, shared the conference lead in week two with five points after scoring two goals and adding one assist in a 1-0-1 GCU stretch. Gourley registered an assist on the final goal for the Lopes in a 3-0 win at UNLV on Aug. 25. Gourley then erupted for two goals in just over three minutes, tying the match at 51:15 and giving GCU the lead on a penalty kick at 54:27, in a 3-3 draw at Utah State on Aug. 28.
Schumacher, a graduate transfer goalkeeper from Cal State Fullerton, earned a pair of wins for CBU during a road swing to the Northeast. Schumacher made six saves in just under 80 minutes to pick up the victory in a 4-1 decision at Bryant on Aug. 25 and turned aside two shots in a 3-0 combined clean sheet at Merrimack on Aug. 28.
