TicketSmarter WAC Volleyball Players Of The Week Announced
DENVER – UT Arlington’s Brianna Ford, Utah Tech's Mykenna Nelson and UT Arlington’s Sophie Skinner have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Volleyball Offensive, Defensive and Freshman Players of the Week, for the match week ending on Sunday, Sept. 11.
Ford, a sophomore outside hitter, closed out the weekend as the UTSA Invitational MVP with three straight double-doubles. Led UTA to a 3-0 weekend and the UTSA Invite title. Ford tallied 55 kills, 41 digs, 12 blocks, five assists and five aces averaging 4.23 kills/set and 3.15 digs/set with a hitting percentage of .339 for the weekend. In her nine matches played she has a total of six double-doubles in this young season.
Nelson, a senior libero, helped her team to a 2-1 record over the weekend getting victories over Nevada and Tennesse State. Nelson racked up 72 digs over three matches. She averaged 5.14 digs per set over the weekend while recording 20+ digs in two different matches. Nelson is second in the conference in digs with 146.
Skinner, a first-year setter, completed the weekend on the UTSA Invitational All-Tournament Team, leading UTA to a 3-0 weekend and the UTSA Invite title. Skinner averaged 9.08 assists/set, 2.23 digs/set, while accomplishing her first career double-double vs McNeese (44 assists, 14 digs). She recorded an early season-high 45 assists, plus nine digs, against South Florida followed by a 29-assist, six-dig performance against UTSA.
