UTRGV AND UTAH VALLEY ATOP OF WAC STANDINGS
After opening week of conference play UTRGV and Utah Valley sit at the top of conference standings. UTRGV has the second highest winning percentage in the conference this season including an undefeated home record. Utah Valley is now 4-1 at home with a winning percentage over .500 as they prepare to host Sam Houston this coming weekend.
UT ARLINGTON TOPS GCU IN FIVE-SET BOUT
UT Arlington opened Western Athletic Conference play with a 3-2 win over Grand Canyon on Sept. 24. This marked the first win for UTA as a member of the WAC. The Mavericks are currently tied for second in conference standings with Abilene Christian while boasting a seven-game win streak.
UTAH VALLEY'S SHEWELL NAMED OFFENSIVE AND FRESHMAN POTW
For the first time this season Avery Shewell of Utah Valley has claimed both the Offensive and Freshman Player of the Week honors. Shewell helped lead the Wolverines to a 2-0 record over the past week, contributing on both the offensive and defensive sides of the net. Shewell set a new career-high with 13 kills on Sept. 22’s victory on the road against Utah Tech while hitting .524 in the match.
ABILENE CHRISTIAN GETS FIVE-SET VICTORY OVER SAM HOUSTON
Abilene Christian opened Western Athletic conference play with a 3-2 victory over Sam Houston on Sept. 22. During the match the Wildcats tied a season-high in kills (72) with a hitting percentage of .351 which is the Wildcats season-best. Madison Rohre recorded 25 assists during the match which brought her career total to 2,039.
HOANG OF SFA RANKED NATIONALLY
Haley Hoang of Stephen F. Austin is currently ranked third nationally in digs per set at 5.73. Hoang opened the season with a 28-dig performance against DePaul on Aug. 26 and then matched that performance against Tulsa on Sept. 3. Hoang set her season-high in digs (35) at Sam Houston on Sept. 24.
