TicketSmarter WAC Football Players Of The Week Announced
DENVER – Southern Utah's Justin Miller and Jake Gerardi and Stephen F. Austin's Myles Heard have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Football Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, for the game week ending on Saturday, Sept. 3.
Miller, a redshirt junior quarterback, was an offensive force for Southern Utah in a 44-13 rout of St. Thomas (Minn.) to open the season on Sept. 1. Miller completed 23-of-35 (65.7 percent) of his passes for 364 yards and three touchdowns with no turnovers for the Thunderbirds. Miller finished the first half an impressive 14-of-20 for 246 yards and added a 64-yard touchdown through the air to open a 20-7 halftime lead for Southern Utah.
Heard, a junior safety, played a crucial role in SFA’s 31-27 comeback victory at Alcorn State on Sept. 3, helping the Lumberjacks overcome a 14-point halftime deficit and hand the host Braves their first home loss since 2018. Heard finished the contest with 13 total tackles, one pass breakup and an interception that stopped Alcorn State from countering following SFA’s game-winning touchdown with 2:22 to play.
Gerardi, a redshirt senior punter/kicker, did it all for Southern Utah in the win against St. Thomas. Gerardi led the nation with an average of 55.2 yards per punt (long of 71) during the victory, dropping a pair of his four attempts inside the 20. Gerardi also connected on a 27-yard field goal in the first quarter.
