TicketSmarter WAC Volleyball Players Of The Week Announced
DENVER – UTRGV's Sarah Cruz, Stephen F. Austin's Haley Hoang and Tarleton’s Ailie Hair have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Volleyball Offensive, Defensive and Freshman Players of the Week, for the match week ending on Sunday, Sept. 4.
Cruz, a senior outside hitter, again controlled the offensive game for UTRGV in a 4-0 undefeated week that featured a pair of sweeps. Cruz led the WAC with 6.30 points per set and 5.73 kills per set, hitting a cumulative .335 in those contests. Cruz racked up 30 kills while hitting .393 with 18 digs in a five-set win to begin the week against Corpus Christ (Aug. 30). Cruz then hit .341 with 21 kills in a sweep of UTSA (Sept. 2) and added 14 kills on .345 hitting in straight sets against North Dakota State (Sept. 3).
Hoang, a junior defensive specialist, played a central role in keeping SFA undefeated for the season following a spotless 4-0 team match performance. Hoang led all WAC players with 6.50 digs per set and 91 digs overall for the week, with none of the Ladyjacks’ matches going the full five sets. Hoang registered 21 digs in a four-set win against North Texas (Aug. 30), 25 digs in four sets against South Alabama (Sept. 2) and 28 digs in a sweep of Tulsa (Sept. 3).
Hair, a first-year middle blocker, kept the momentum rolling for Tarleton during a 3-1 week that included a three-match win streak at home. Hair hit a combined .571 with 3.64 points per set and 1.00 blocks per set. Hair logged a .783 hitting percentage with 19 kills in a four-set win against Southeastern La. (Sept. 2) and hit .733 with 11 kills in a sweep later in the day versus Tennessee State (Sept. 2).
