DENVER – Grand Canyon's Gianna Gourley and NM State’s Makenna Gottschalk have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, for the match week ending on Sunday, Sept. 4.

Gourley, a junior forward, repeated as the conference’s top offensive player with two crucial goals in an undefeated week for GCU. Gourley tallied the match-winning goal at 53:25 to lead GCU past Arizona 1-0 (Sept. 1) for the first win against an autonomous conference opponent in program history. Gourley opened the scoring in the 14th minute of an eventual 2-1 win at New Mexico (Sept. 4).

Gottschalk, a fifth-year goalkeeper, picked up two solo clean sheets in a 2-0 weekend for NM State. Gottschalk made one official save for the Aztecs in a 3-0 shutout of UTEP (Sept. 1) and followed that performance up with four saves (two in each half) of a 3-0 victory against Portland State (Sept. 3).
