SFA ATOP WAC RESUME SEEDING RANKING

In the latest WAC Resume Seeding System ranking on Jan. 8, Stephen F. Austin (12-3, 2-1) remained as the top live seed in the WAC. The Lumberjacks tallied 2.59 points to place ahead of 10-5 Utah Tech (0.66 points), 11-4 Grand Canyon (0.18 points) and 7-7Southern Utah (0.01 points).

SOUTHERN UTAH IMPROVED TO 3-0 IN WAC PLAY

Southern Utah improved to 3-0 in WAC play as they topped Seattle U 75-62 last week. Four players scored in double digits for the Thunderbirds led by Cherita Daughtery with 21 points followed by Daylani Ballena and Megan Jensen both finishing with 20 points each. Lizzy Williamson finished with the game's lone double-double tallying 12 points and 14 rebounds.

NM STATE ON TWO-GAME WINNING STREAK

NM state moves up five spots in the WAC standings after back-to-back victories over Utah Valley and Tarleton. Utah Valley gave the Aggies all they could handle as they game went into overtime with NM State coming out on top 63-57. The Aggies topped Tarleton by a score of 61-43 and were led in scoring by Molly Kaiser who finished with a game high 13 points with four rebounds, two steals and a block.

SCHMIDT LEADS CBU PAST UTAH VALLEY

California Baptist takes down Utah Valley by a score of 69-61 behind a season high performance by Grace Schmidt. Schmidt scored a game high 28 points on 9-15 shooting with eight rebounds and two blocks. Dorcas Wu finished with 12 points and six rebounds followed by Trinity San Antonio with 10 points and four rebounds. The Lancers begin a three-game homestead as they host SFA, Seattle U and Grand Canyon beginning on Thursday.

UTRGV GETS FIRST WAC WIN OF THE SEASON

UTRGV scored a season-high 83 points to defeat UT Arlington by ten points to get its first WAC victory of the season. The Vaqueros were led by Iyana Dorsey who scored a career-high 31 points on 7-17 shooting and 13-15 from the free throw line. Mele Kailahi scored 22 points on 7-11 shooting while tying a career-high with four three-pointers and four rebounds. Deborah Ogayemi notched her second double-double with 12 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.

THE WAC IN NATIONAL STATS RANKINGS

In the latest NCAA DI national statistics rankings that were released on Jan. 9, Grand Canyon drops one spot and now is 2nd in steals per game at 14.8 and is now 13th in turnover margin (6.47) along with being 4th in turnovers forced per game (24.40). Sam Houston is now ranked 2nd in offensive rebounds per game at 18.7. California Baptist currently ranks 4th in three-point field goals per game with 29.3 followed by UTRGV in the 17th spot with 26.4 and Abilene Christian at 26.3. Sam Houston is now ranked 15th in total rebounds per game with 44.23 and Southern Utah is ranked 24th in the same category at 42.93. NM State moves into the national rankings in three different categories, ranking 46th in total steals per game (10.1), 49th in turnover margin (4.12) and 47th in turnovers forced per game at 19.56.
