TicketSmarter WAC Indoor Track & Field Athletes Of The Week Announced
ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington’s Joel Bengtsson, Stephen F. Austin’s Branson Ellis, NM State’s Aliyah Logan and UT Arlington’s Jade Bontke have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, for the competition week ending on Sunday, Jan. 15.
Bengtsson, a senior, finished in third place in the men’s 60-meter hurdles at the Arkansas Invitational on Jan. 13. Bengtsson completed the race with a time of 7.86. Bengtsson came close to beating his own personal best of 7.78. Bengtsson is currently ranked first in the WAC as of Jan. 17.
Ellis, a senior, won the men’s pole vault event at the Arkansas Invitational on Jan. 13 with a top clearance of 5.60m (18-4.5). Ellis’s winning attempt at the Arkansas Invitational was the best in the WAC this season and ranked fourth in the NCAA as of Jan. 17.
Logan, a junior, placed third in the women’s 60-meter hurdles at the TTU Corky Classic on Jan. 13. Logan completed the race breaking her personal best, clocking a time of 8.29. Logan’s final time was the top time in the conference and ranked 21st in the nation this season as of Jan. 17.
Bontke, a senior, cleared 1.75m (5-8.75) in the women’s high jump to secure third place at the Arkansas Invitational on Jan. 13. Bontke fell short of breaking her personal best of 1.79m (5-10.5), yet the third-place jump was the best in the WAC and was 29th in the NCAA as of Jan. 17.
