SFA ATOP WAC RESUME SEEDING RANKINGS
In the latest WAC Resume Seeding System ranking on Jan. 1, Stephen F. Austin remained as the top live seed in the WAC after week one of conference play. The Lumberjacks tallied 2.69 points to place ahead of 9-4 Utah Tech (0.31 points) and UT Arlington 7-7 (0.28 points).
SOUTHERN UTAH 2-0 IN WAC PLAY
Southern Utah opened conference play with victories over Utah Tech and NM State. Five players scored in double digits in the win over Utah Tech led by Megan Jensen with 19 points and ten rebounds. Against NM State, Cherita Daughtery tallied a game high 26 points and five rebounds.
SFA CONTINUES WINNING STREAK
Stephen F. Austin is now on a six-game winning streak after an 83-78 victory over Abilene Christian to open WAC play. Kyla Deck scored a team high 18 points followed by a 17-point, 15 rebound performance from Avery Brittingham. Jordan Harrison finished the game with 14 points and Tyler McCliment-Call scored 12 points and reeled in seven rebounds.
SAM HOUSTON TOPS SEATTLE U
Sam Houston opened conference play with a 92-72 victory over Seattle U. The Bearkats finished the game with six players scoring in double digits along with three double-double performances. Kaylee Jefferson had 18 points and 12 rebounds, Raanee Smith entered the game off the bench and finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Madelyn Batista had 10 points and 12 rebounds, Chyna Allen tallied 16 points, Sydnee Kemp had 15 points and Alexus Seaton finished with 11 points.
SEATTLE U GETS ROAD WIN OVER UTRGV
Seattle U secures first win of the season behind a 20-point performance from Taliyah Clark. Clark tallied a team high 32 minutes and shot 7-15 from the field including four three pointers. As a team SU went 22-45 from the field shooting 48.9%. Mya Moore chipped in 12 points and added five rebounds.
THE WAC IN NATIONAL STATS RANKINGS
In the latest NCAA DI national statistics rankings that were released on Jan. 3, Grand Canyon remains first in steals per game at 15.1 and is now seventh in turnover margin (8.00) along with being fifth in turnovers forced per game (24.62). Sam Houston is now ranked third in offensive rebounds per game at 18.5. California Baptist currently ranks fifth in three-point field goals per game with 29.1 followed by Abilene Christian and UTRGV being tied in the 16th spot at 26.7. Sam Houston moved up six spots and is now ranked 14th in total rebounds per game with 45.00 and Southern Utah is ranked 36th in the same category at 42.54.
