2023 WAC MSOC Release Week 8

SEATTLE U CHECKS IN #20 IN UNITED SOCCER COACHES TOP 25

Seattle U remained among the top 20 teams in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll on Oct. 10, slotting in at an even 20th with a 7-2-3 record (2-0-1 WAC). The Redhawks, co-leaders in the WAC standings with seven points, have earned a result in 10 of their past 11 starts dating back to Aug. 27.

RED HOT REBELS CLIMB IN THE WAC STANDINGS
Winner of two straight conference matches and three of its last four starts overall, UNLV has climbed into WAC tournament contention in a tie for third place in the league standings entering play on Oct. 12. The Rebels, with a 4-5-2 overall record and a 2-1-0 WAC mark as of Oct. 11, are looking to return to the postseason for the first time since the 2021 spring season. Freshman forward Tyler Ware was named WAC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 10 after tallying a goal and adding two assists in a four-point week for UNLV in wins over San José State (2-0) and Air Force (2-1).

PREMACK ROUNDING INTO FORM FOR CBU
California Baptist senior goalkeeper Nolan Premack earned WAC Goalkeeper of the Week accolades on Oct. 10 after helping guide the Lancers to a second straight conference shutout and a 2-0-0 league record. Premack logged three saves in a 3-0 clean sheet against UTRGV on Oct. 8. Since making his season debut on Sept. 13, the 2022 WAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player has compiled a 3-1-1 record, an 0.60 goals against average and an .833 save percentage with three shutouts.

WAC TEAMS IN THE NCAA RPI
In the latest release of the NCAA RPI for the 2023 season on Oct. 8, a pair of teams from the WAC were ranked among the national top 40 in the key metric that helps seed the NCAA Championship. WAC co-leader Seattle U checked in 24th with a 7-2-3 overall record, with Grand Canyon also among the top 40 slotted 35th with its 6-4-2 mark. Seattle U’s eighth ranked opponent strength of schedule was the best in the WAC as of Oct. 8.

WAC TEAMS AMONG THE NCAA LEADERS
As of the latest NCAA Division I men’s soccer national statistics report on Oct. 10, UTRGV was ninth in the country in shot accuracy by logging a .518 average on shot attempts on goal thus far this season. Grand Canyon goalkeeper Leon Schmidt ranked fifth in total saves (58), while California Baptist goalkeeper Nolan Premack checked in sixth in goals against average (0.60) and eighth in save percentage (.833).
