2023 WAC WSOC Release Week 10

ONE TEAM LEFT TO CLINCH WAC TOURNAMENT

After the conclusion of last week games, Utah Valley, California Baptist, Grand Canyon, Utah Tech and Seattle U have all clinched a spot to the WAC Tournament. As the conclusion of conference play occurs this weekend, four teams look to clinch the final spot to compete for a WAC title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament.

GOURLEY, GANIEF TAG TEAM
Grand Canyon had a dynamic duo during last week’s games with WAC Offensive Player of the Week senior forward Gianna Gourley and senior defender Aleisha Ganief recording four goals each in a pair of shutout wins over UTRGV and Stephen F. Austin. In a 5-0 win against UTRGV, Ganief recorded her first two goals of her career, while Gourley’s two goals gave her a total of 50.  The duo then each scored twice for the second consecutive match in a 8-0 win over SFA to help GCU have its highest-scoring game since 2016 (Chicago State 9-0).

NCAA RPI RANKINGS
In the latest release of the NCAA RPI for the 2023 season on Oct. 15, a pair of teams from the WAC were ranked among the national top 100 in the key metric that helps seed the NCAA Championship. WAC leader Utah Valley ranks 74 with an 8-3-5 overall record, with Grand Canyon checked in at 90th with its 10-4-3 mark

BLAZING STREAK
Utah Tech’s 3-1 wins against Tarleton State and Abilene Christian extended the Trailblazers unbeaten streak to 10 games. With the two consecutive wins, this is only the second time in the program’s Division I history that the Trailblazers reached a 10-game unbeaten streak.
