RIVERSIDE, Calif. – No. 4 seed Grand Canyon and No. 3 seed Seattle U advanced to the semifinals of the 2023 WAC Women’s Soccer Tournament after earning wins in the opening round. Grand Canyon defeated No. 5 Utah Tech 3-0 and Seattle U took down No.6 Southern Utah 2-1.  

Grand Canyon will face off against No. 1 Utah Valley on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 4 p.m. PT, while Seattle U will take on No. 2 California Baptist at 7 p.m PT. 
 
No. 4 Grand Canyon 3, No. 5 Utah Tech 0

Grand Canyon’s defense held Utah Tech to six shots, while the Lopes had 25 shots and 15 on goal. GCU also held a 4-2 advantage in the corner kicks contest.
 
Bekah Valdez scored an unassisted goal at 18:28 to give GCU a 1-0 lead. WAC Offensive Player of the Year Gianna Gourley brought her season goal total to 20 after scoring two goals in the second half to secure the win for the Lopes.

Seattle U dominated Southern Utah by a 20-7 shot count in the match. Seattle U’s Caroline Penner scored the first goal of the match assisted by Savannah Singleton to put the Redhawks up 1-0 in the 35th minute. 

Southern Utah’s Whitney Gardner tied the match with a goal in the top left corner at 48:20. Seattle U re-took the lead at 82:34, as Hallie Bergford headed a corner kick in the bottom center of the net to give the Redhawks the 2-1 lead.
