ARLINGTON, Texas – Grand Canyon’s
Dania Deaifi (Singles),
Natasha Puehse (Doubles), and
Santa Strombacha (Doubles) have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Tennis Players, for the month ending on Saturday, Sept. 30.
Deaifi (So.) is awarded the Women’s Singles Player of the Month as she went 6-1 throughout September. In the Lumberjack Classic hosted by Northern Arizona, Deaifi went 2-1 collecting wins over New Mexico’s Maud Vandepute (6-1, 0-6, 6-2) and Tulsa’s Ana Martinez (3-6, 6-2, 6-4). Deaifi then went a perfect 4-0 in the SDSU Fall Classic the following weekend where she took down CSUN’s Emma Sanz and three Minnesota opponents: Sofia Pizzoni (6-2, 7-5), Sofia Pinto (0-6, 6-3,6-4), and Mia Liepert (6-2, 7-6 [7-2]).
Puehse (Sr.) and Strombacha (Sr.) are awarded the Women’s Doubles Players of the Month as they went undefeated 7-0 together throughout September. The Lopes duo went 4-0 and won the doubles championship at the Milwaukee Classic, an ITA Gold Event, recording wins over ranked opponents #40 Mukhortova/Cai (Wisconsin) 7-5 and #44 Cayetano/Piper (USC) 7-5. Puehse and Strombacha followed their stellar performance with another undefeated weekend by winning the top doubles flight in the SDSU Fall Classic as they defeated UTEP 6-2, Minnesota 6-1, and CSUN 6-2.
