ARLINGTON, Texas – California Baptist’s Arturs Medveds and Greta Karinauskaite have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Cross Country Athletes of the Week, for the week ending on Saturday, Sept. 30.
 
California Baptist dominated the Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota, by sweeping first-place in the men’s and women’s gold races. The invitational consisted of numerous nationally ranked teams such as Gonzaga, Utah, Colorado State, New Mexico, and many more.
 
Medveds (Gr.) was the top scorer for the Lancer’s men team, posting a fourth-place finish in the Men’s Gold 8K with a time of 24:10.8, his best time at the invitational out of three attempts at the meet. Medveds was one of four Lancers to place inside the top ten, which helped lift the Lancers to their first win in the meet in program history by a comfortable margin of 24 points over runner-up Gonzaga.
 
Karinauskaite (Sr.) took the top spot of the podium in the Women’s Gold 6K as she outran nearly 200 other competitors with a time of 20:27.6, her second career first-place finish in a 6K. Not only was this time her third-fastest 6K of her career, but it was the fourth-fastest in the history of the meet and the quickest on the course since 2004. Karinauskaite’s first-place finish played an important role in the women’s meet as she helped the Lancers claim first prize over second place, Utah, by a single point.
