2023 WAC VB Release Week 11
GRAND CANYON PUNCHES TICKET TO WAC TOURNAMENT
Grand Canyon was the second team to clinch a spot in the WAC Volleyball Tournament. The Lopes punched a ticket to the tournament after a 3-0 sweep over Utah Tech on Oct. 26. Tatum Parrott led GCU recording a double-double with 16 kills and 15 digs, while Klaire Mitchell had 35 assists.
PRODUCTIVE WEEKEND FOR UTAH VALLEY
Utah Valley had an unbeaten weekend with two sweeps over Abilene Christian and Tarleton State. The Wolverines held their opponents to a .129 hitting percentage for the week. Utah Valley dominated in the blocking category with Kendra Nock (15), Caleigh Vagana (13) and WAC Player of the Week Tori Ellis (13) leading the WAC this week in total blocks.
BRICK WALLS
Seattle U set a new program record against the Wildcats, recording a season-high 21 total blocks. Freshman Tatum Chase led the Redhawks with a career-high 11 blocks. Chase marked the highest overall total block performance for the WAC in one contest this season. Elif Teksoy (7), Arianna Bilby (6) and Naima Foster (5) also pitched in with career-highs.
SHAKING THINGS UP IN THE WAC
UT Arlington and Seattle U secured some big wins over the weekend. UT Arlington defeated UTRGV, who has been sitting comfortably in third place. The Mavericks secured a 3-1 win with Brianna Ford leading the charge with 18 kills. Seattle U earned its second conference win in a five-set thriller against Abilene Christian. Despite being outscored by ACU in kills (77), assists (74) and digs (98), the Redhawks held the Wildcats to a .185 hitting percentage in the fifth set.
ABILENE CHRISTIAN EARN CONFERENCE HIGHS
Abilene Christian earned conference leading marks in digs during a 2-3 battle against Seattle U. Andie Sheppard led the Wildcats with 29 digs, while ACU as a team recorded 98 digs. Madeline Guffy (21), Bryley Steinhilber (19) also chipped in with double-digit digs.
