ARLINGTON, Texas – California Baptist put itself in prime position for at-large bids into the 2023 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships by way of top-five finishes in regional meet competition on Friday. The Lancers finished in fourth place in both genders during the NCAA West Region meet at Haggins Oaks Golf Course in Sacramento, California.
Greta Karinauskaite was the top individual finisher among all WAC runners at NCAA Regional meets, taking runner-up honors in the West following a 6K time of 19:12.4. Teammate
Yasna Petrova joined Karinauskaite as an all-region performer in eighth place individually with a time of 19:34.1. The CBU men slid back from the top overall ranking in the region entering the postseason to fourth in the 10K at the West meet, with
Valentin Soca (third place, 29:02.0),
Arturs Medveds (ninth, 29:21.2) and
Giedrius Valincius (23rd, 29:44.7) capturing all-region honors.
The Utah Valley women’s program placed fifth in the NCAA Mountain Region meet Chaparral Ridge Cross Country Course in Lubbock.
Morgan Nokes led the Wolverines with a 12th-place finish in the 6K in 19:49.0, while
Ari Trimble finished 17th with a time of 19:58.2 to secure all-region.

Matro Jepkemboi continued a sensational freshman season for the Mavs, placing third in the NCAA South Central Region competition at Agri Park in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Jepkemboi’s 6K time of 20:15.8 guided UT Arlington to an eighth-place team showing in the region.
The 2023 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships are schedueld for Nov. 18 at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Virginia.
