ARLINGTON, Texas – Utah Tech’s
Breaunna Gillen and Tarleton State’s
Andjela Bigovic have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Nov. 12.
Gillen, a fifth-year guard, averaged 22.5 points on 62.5 percent shooting, along with 9.5 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 2.0 steals in Utah Tech’s two home wins. She opened her final year by just missing her second career triple-double, going for a game-high 21 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists, and picked off three steals, in the win over La Verne. Gillen followed that up with a game-high 24 points and eight rebounds in the Jacksonville State win. She scored 12 of her 24 points in the second quarter as part of a 25-5 run that turned a 25-19 deficit into a 44-30 halftime lead for the Trailblazers.
Bigovic, a sophomore forward, averaged 10.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.3 blocks. Bigovic’s best game was on Sunday at New Mexico, where she posted 12 points, 16 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. Her 16 rebounds are the most in a game by a Texan in over six years, last accomplished by Mackenzie Hailey (2017).
