2023-24 WAC Women's Basketball Release - Week Three
CALIFORNIA BAPTIST ONLY WAC TEAM UNDEFEATED
After three weeks of game play, California Batist remains the only WAC team to be undefeated at 4-0. The Lancers earned a big 90-87 win over UTEP that went into overtime on Nov. 18. California Baptist was led by Chloe Webb, who recorded 24 points, five rebounds and four steals.
SMITH ERUPTS FOR 30 POINTS
Southern Utah’s Megan Smith had herself a day on Nov. 15 against Alaska Fairbanks. Smith logged 30 points on 68.2 percent (15-of-22) shooting from the floor. She scored 10 points each in the first and fourth quarters.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE THE TROUBLE
Grand Canyon’s Trinity San Antonio and UT Arlington’s Avery Brittingham are the only WAC players to record a total of two double-doubles, respectively, so far this season. Brittingham recorded 11 points and 10 rebounds against Lamar on Nov. 10 and then tallied 13 points and 10 rebounds against UTSA on Nov. 18.
WEBB CLUTCH FOR CALIFORNIA BAPTST
In the last three games for California Baptist, WAC Player of the Week Chloe Webb has scored 20 or more points in each of them. Webb recorded 20 points with a perfect 100 percent (8-of-8) from the charity stripe against San Diego State on Nov. 10. Last week, she averaged a monster line of 26.5 points, eight rebounds, and three steals per game as the Lancers remain the only undefeated team in the WAC. Webb led wire-to-wire in game one against a 3-0 Long Beach State team, dropping a career-high 29 points. UTEP also came into Riverside at 3-0 and held Webb scoreless in the first half, but she stepped up scoring 23 of her 24 points in the second half and in overtime.
STEPHEN F. AUSTIN IN NCAA RANKINGS
Stephen F. Austin is still ranked in multiple categories in the latest NCAA DI national statistics rankings that were released on Nov. 20. The ‘Jacks ranked second in steals per game with 19.0, third in turnover margin (28.00), fourth in turnovers forced per game (15.00) and 11th in three point attempts per game (28.7). Sophomore guard Kyla Deck currently ranks second in the nation with 5.67 steals per game.
