UAC Football Makes FCS Playoff Debut with Austin Peay Repping the Banner

FCS PLAYOFFS - RD. 1 NOTES

 -- United Athletic Conference (UAC) Football makes is debut appearance in postseason play Saturday as UAC Champion No. 10/13 Austin Peay carries the league banner into first round action of the FCS Playoffs against No. 18/19 Chattanooga. The Govs and Mocs square off at 2 PM CT on ESPN+ from Fortera Stadium in Clarksville, Tenn.  

The Govs (9-2, 6-0 UAC) carry a nine-game win streak into the head-to-head clash with the Mocs (7-4, 6-2 SoCon) after securing sole possession of the conference crown along with the UAC's AQ bid to the Playoffs with a 14-12 victory over No. 20 Central Arkansas last Saturday. APSU is 5-0 at "The Fort" this season and also won their only previous FCS Playoff game at home in 2019 (vs Furman).

Austin Peay makes its second all-time appearance in FCS Playoff action and owns a 2-1 record having reached the quarterfinals in 2019. The Govs opened their inaugural playoff run with a win at home against Furman (42-6) followed by a road victory at Sacramento State (42-28) before losing at Montana State (24-10).

The Govs trail the Mocs 6-1 in the series against their in-state rival but earned a 30-20 victory in the last meeting on Sept. 2, 2021 in Chattanooga. In a fun scheduling note, Austin Peay and Chattanooga are slated to close their 2024 slates against each other in Clarksville.

Chattanooga has dropped its last two contests falling at No. 2 Furman (17-14) and at No. 8 Alabama (66-10). The Mocs are 3-4 all-time in FCS Playoff action.
