ARLINGTON, Texas – Tarleton State’s
Jakoriah Long has been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Dec. 17.
Long, a junior guard, tallied 34 points (11-13 FG, 3-4 3PT, 9-10 FT), three steals, two rebounds and two assists. Tarleton State went 1-0 on the week, with an 88-64 road win at McNeese. Long’s 34 points marked the most by a Texan in their NCAA Division I era, surpassing Teresa Da Silva's 31 points scored last season. Long had the most points in a game by a Texan in nearly 10 years since Kiara Wright scored 35 vs. Midwestern State on Feb. 5, 2014. Long is just the fifth player in the country this year with 34 plus points on 80 percent shooting or better in a game. She scored 15 of her 34 points in the fourth quarter to seal Tarleton State’s 24-point victory. Long’s 34 points are tied for the most scored in a game by a WAC player this season. She also set a new career-high in steals (3) and tied her career-high in assists (2).
