ARLINGTON, Texas – Stephen F. Austin’s
Kyla Deck and Abilene Christian’s
Payton Hull have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Dec. 3.
Deck, a sophomore guard, scored 48 points in Stephen F. Austin's wins over Tarleton State and Abilene Christian. She scored a career-high 24 points in both games. In the game against Tarleton State, Deck knocked down six three-pointers which is the most she has made in a single game and tied for seventh most in program history. Against ACU, she recorded her first double-double of the season scoring 24 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. In addition to the 48 points Deck scored, she grabbed 14 rebounds and recorded seven assists. Overall she shot 53.8 percent from the field (14-26) and from behind the arc (7-13).
Hull, a freshman guard, earned newcomer of the week for the second consecutive week after averaging 28.0 points in two games. Hull scored 31 points in a win over UT Arlington, her second consecutive 30-point game,
and then added 25 in a double-overtime loss at Stephen F. Austin. Defensively, she had two blocks against UTA and five steals at SFA.
