Violet Palmer Named to Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2024

ARLINGTON, Texas – The 2024 Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame recently announced its class of 2024 inductees. The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Basketball Coordinator of Officials, Violet Palmer was amongst the seven who will be honored in April in Knoxville, Tenn.

Palmer is the first woman to officiate a major U.S. professional sport at the highest level when she became a referee in the NBA in 1997. She also became the first woman to officiate an NBA playoff game in 2006 and the 2014 NBA All-Star game. Palmer has officiated over 900 regular season games in the NBA.

Palmer joined the WAC staff in July of 2015 to serve as the coordinator of women's basketball officials. Palmer has served as coordinator of women's basketball officials for the West Coast Conference since 2009. She is a member of the NCAA Mechanics Committee and assists in the editing of the CCA Women's Basketball Officials Manual. As a college official, she officiated in five NCAA Women’s Final Fours and two national championship games.

Palmer will be joined by Maya Moore, Seimone Augustus, Taj McWilliams-Franklin, Rita Gail Easterling, Sue Phillips and Roonie Scovel in the 2024 induction ceremony on Saturday, April 27, in Knoxville, Tenn., at the Tennessee Theatre. The 2024 class of inductees will mark the 25th class of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.
