TicketSmarter WAC Indoor Track & Field Athletes Of The Week Announced
ARLINGTON, Texas – Tarleton’s Justin Raines, Stephen F. Austin’s Branson Ellis, Utah Valley’s Everlyn Kemboi and Stephen F. Austin’s Nissi Kabongo have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, for the competition week ending on Sunday, Jan. 29.
Raines, a sophomore, clocked the fastest time in the WAC in the men’s 60-meter dash this season while competing at the Texas Tech Open on Jan. 26. Raines ran an adjusted 6.72 in the 60-dash finals to place second in the competition.
Ellis, a senior, won a third straight men’s pole vault title and conference athlete of the week award for Stephen F. Austin at New Mexico Team Open on Jan. 27. Ellis was the only vaulter in the field to clear 5.62m (18-5.25) to post the top mark in the WAC this season and rank fifth in the NCAA as of Feb. 1.
Kemboi, a senior, captured an event win in the women’s 3000-meter run on Jan. 28 at the Stacy Dragila Open. Kemboi clocked an adjusted time of 9:12.57 to post the top showing in the conference this season and rank 23rd in NCAA Division I as of Feb. 1.
Kabongo, a senior, cleared 1.81m (5-11.25) in the women’s high jump at the Texas Tech Open on Jan. 26 to claim fourth place in a loaded field. Kabongo’s top attempt ranked first in the WAC and 20th nationally as of Feb. 1.
