ARLINGTON, Texas – Utah Tech’s Amber Kartchner and California Baptist’s Grace Schmidt have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Basketball Player and Freshman of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Feb. 12.
Kartchner, a redshirt-freshman guard from Logan, Utah, scored a game-high 26 points on 9-10 shooting, including a perfect 3-3 from the three-point line in UT’s 90-57 home win over NM State on Saturday afternoon. Kartchner also went 5-6 at the foul line, and finished with four rebounds, four assists and a steal in 30 minutes of game action.
Schmidt, a forward from Ixonia, Wisconsin, averaged 20 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 53.3% from the field. Schmidt played nearly 30 minutes each game and was one point shy of matching her career-high with her 27-point performance against Tarleton State, a victory that sealed an undefeated run in the state of Texas this season. The wins vaulted the Lancers back into the top four of the WAC standings.
