TicketSmarter WAC Indoor Track & Field Athletes Of The Week Announced
ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington’s Joel Bengtsson, Stephen F. Austin’s Branson Ellis, Utah Valley’s Everlyn Kemboi and Stephen F. Austin’s Nissi Kabongo have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, for the competition week ending on Sunday, Feb. 12.
Bengtsson, a senior, placed second in the men’s 60-meter hurdles at the Howie Ryan Invitational on Feb. 10, clocking a finals time of 7.95. Bengtsson, the conference leader and 22nd-ranked athlete in the 60-meter hurdles in the NCAA as of Feb. 15, posted a prelim time of 7.92.
Ellis, a senior, continued an impressive indoor campaign with a win in the men’s pole vault at the Tyson Invitational on Feb. 10. Ellis cleared 5.81m (19-0.75) in a dominant showing, competing unopposed at the final three heights. Ellis improved to third in the nation in the pole vault as of Feb. 15.
Kemboi, a senior, finished in sixth place in the women’s 5000-meter run at the Husky Classic on Feb. 10. Kemboi crossed the line with a time of 15:48.98, the only sub 16-minute time in the event in the WAC this season, to rank 25th in the country as of Feb. 15.
Kabongo, a senior, won the women’s high jump at the Howie Ryan Invitational on Feb. 10. Kabongo cleared 1.85m (6-0.75) to lead the WAC and rank 11th in NCAA DI as of Feb. 15.
