ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington’s Starr Jacobs and Taleyah Jones have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Basketball Player and Freshman of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Feb. 19.
Jacobs, a redshirt-senior forward from Dallas, Texas, averaged 27.5 points, 16.5 rebounds, 4 steals, 1.6 assists 1 block in wins over two games. Jacobs shot 18-of-36 (.500) from the field and 19-of-25 (.760) from foul line combined. Jacobs led UTA to 106-102 double overtime win over Sam Houston with career-high 35 points, career-high 20 rebounds, four steals, three assists and two blocks. Jacobs followed that up with 20 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals in a win over ACU. Jacobs increased the WAC-best double-double total to eight in conference play and leads the conference in scoring (18.9 PPG), steals (3.6 SPG) and offensive rebounding (4.07 ORPG). Jacobs is also second in rebounds (10 RPG), sixth in field goal percentage (.476) and ninth in assists (3.33 APG).
Jones, a guard from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, averaged 15 points, 4 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1 block over two games and shot 10-of-25 (.400) from the field and 9-of-11 (.818) from the foul line. Jones helped lead UTA to 106-102 double OT win over Sam Houston with 16 points, season-high seven rebounds, 4 assists and two blocks. Jones followed that up with 14 points in win over Abilene Christian and has now scored double-figures in three straight, 4 of the past 5 and 6 of the past 8 games.
