2023 WAC Swimmimg & Diving Complete Results
Pharr, Texas – Northern Arizona women wins its tenth consecutive WAC swimming and diving title, and UNLV men’s team wins its third consecutive WAC swimming and diving title which was held at the City of Pharr Natatorium.
Casey Craffey of NAU won the WAC title in the women's 1650 freestyle, posting a top time of 16:20.50. Naomi Slee of NM State took second with a time of 16:45.05 and Anna Austin of Norther Colorado was third with a time of 16:46.97. Craffey met the NCAA DI B standard with her performance.
Mark Kovacsics of California Baptist won the men's 1650 free touching the wall first with a time of 15:01.05. Charlie Clark of Wyoming finished second with a time of 15:20.86, while Cameron Castro earned a third-place finish with a time of 15:25.29. Each of these three athletes met the NCAA DI B standard.
In the women's 200 back, Pia Murray of Utah Tech won the gold, posting a time of 1:54.96. Second place went to Ally Boynton of Utah Tech with a time of 1:55.98, and Lindsay Puhalski of NM State took third with a time of 1:57.73. Murray and Boynton both met the NCAA DI standard.
Panos Bolanos of UNLV touched the wall first in the men's 200 back with a time of 1:40.64, setting a new WAC record. Sam Jennings of Grand Canyon was second with a time of 1:44.05, followed by McKay Mickelson of UNLV with a time of 1:45.09. Bolanos and Jennings both met the NCAA DI standard.
Maria Brunlehner of Grand Canyon won the women's 100 free with a time of 48.81. Emily Muteti of GCU finished second at 49.04, and Alison Jackson of Northern Colorado placed third (49.47). GCU teammates Brunlehner and Muteti both met the NCAA DI B standard.
Remi Fabiani of CBU finished first in the men's 100 free with a time of 42.21. He was followed by Wen Zhang of Air Force (42.32) and George Ratiu of UNLV (43.41). The top five finishers in the final heat met the NCAA DI B standard.
Haley Mayhew of NAU captured the women's 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:12.95. Northern Colorado teammates Maria Erokhina and Bryanna Ungs finished second and third with times of 2:13.47 and 2:15.76. Mayhew and Erokhina both met the NCAA DI B standard.
Jonathan Rom of GCU set the WAC and WAC Meet record in his win for the men's 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:53.90. CBU’s Jonathan Reiter finished second with a time of 1:55.54, while Mike Breitbart of UNLV took third with a time of 1:56.86. The top four finishers all met the NCAA DI B standard.
In the women's 200 fly, Maddy Rey of NAU won with a top time of 1:58.92. Payton Irwin of UNC placed second with a time of 1:59.17, and Aleksandra Wegrzynowska of GCU finished third with a time of 1:59.84. Rey and Irwin both met the NCAA DI B standard.
Quinn Cynor of Wyoming earned the Cowboy’s first gold medal in the men's 200 fly, posting a top time of 1:44.30. Adrian Curbelo Tejera of GCU took second place with a time of 1:44.91, followed by his teammate Guillermo Perosanz Lopez in third place with a time of 1:44.96. These three athletes all met the NCAA DI B standard.
GCU captured the gold in the women's 400 free relay with Emily Muteti, Maria Chatzi, Kaity Carr and Maria Brunlehner posting a combined time of 3:19.16. Second place went to NM State (3:21.45) and third place went to Utah Tech (3:22.33).
To close out the meet, UNLV finished first in the men's 400 free relay, as George Ratiu, Panos Bolanos, Kris Matuszewski and Reece Hemmens recorded a time of 2:51.02. Air Force was runner up with a time of 2:54.34, and GCU took third place with a time of 2:54.84. UNLV met the NCAA DI B standard.
