ARLINGTON, Texas – Sam Houston’s Madelyn Batista and UTRGV’s Charlotte O’Keefe have been named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Basketball Player and Freshman of the Week, for the game week ending on Monday, Feb. 6.
Batista, a senior forward from Orlando, Florida, had back-to-back double-doubles in road wins against Seattle U and California Baptist. Batista scored 21 points and 13 rebounds against Seattle U and 15 points and 14 rebounds against CBU. For the week, Batista averaged 18 points and 13.5 rebounds per game.
O’Keefe, a forward from Overland Park, Kansas, averaged a double-double last week with 12 points and 10 rebounds while going 9-of-19 (.474) and going 2-of-4 (.500) from three-point range. O’Keefe started the week with a 10 point and 17 rebound performance in the win over Utah Tech. It was her second double-double of the season and the 17 rebounds was a career high. The 17 rebounds were also the sixth most in a single game in program history and tied the program record for rebounds in a WAC game. O’Keefe then set a new career-high with 14 points against Southern Utah while hitting a career-high two three-pointers.
